Frank A's blog...
The last few weeks I blogged on Saturday, but I was so angry yesterday that I needed to wait until today to blog. I may not have been able to hold back obscenities yesterday. After week 1, I lost 9 lbs. After week 2, I gained a lb. This week, after having incredible sugar scores all week, feeling healthier than ever, avoiding unhealthy foods, eating the same exact healthy foods that I did the 1st two weeks, and working out more often and harder than I did the 1st two weeks, I gained 4 lbs. For the 1st hour after my weekly weigh-in at Weight Watchers (who's plan I'm not actually following currently, because I'm in the process of getting my diabetes and insulin unit amounts in order by counting carbs and calories), I spewed a bunch of crap like "Why bother?" "Why am I torturing myself for this?" "This isn't fun! At least I was living when I was eating whatever I wanted!"
Once I calmed down, I realized some things:
#1 This contest is 6 months long and we're in the 3rd week of trying to change my life forever.
#2 Health-wise, I feel better than I have in years.
#3 Not being miserable after every meal has been kind of nice.
#4 When you are 42-years-old, it's harder and it's going to take some tweaking to figure things out.
#5 I'm dealing with two different nutritionalists and an endocrinologist who I can e-mail or call any time, so use them!
#6 I've been eating about 2400 calories per day and 75-100 carbs per meal (which isn't horrible for a person my size with such severe health issues), when, according to my Cleveland Clinic nutritionist, I should be eating closer to 1900 calories per day and 60-75 carbs per meal. This will help!
#7 Insulin injections put weight on. Better sugar scores mean less insulin.
A couple of angry days this week and a couple of bad weigh-ins isn't going to stop me. Starting today, I'll be upping my workouts to 5 days per week and I'll be cutting out between meal snacks (unless my sugars are dropping too low). More than anything, though, I will be strictly sticking to no more than 1900 calories per day and no more than 75 carbs per meal.
Here's to making already busy weeks busier and actually losing weight along with doing everything else right!
See you next week....
